Professor Soji Frederick Oluwole was born on May 25, 1943 at Ijare, Ondo State, of non-literate Christian parents who strongly believed in the Western education and pioneered the training of children in this small town. After completing the primary education in Ijare, he was sent to Imade College, Owo, for secondary school education between 1957 and 1961. From there he went to Loyola College, Ibadan for the Higher School Certificate, which he completed in 1963. He was admitted to the University of Ibadan Medical School in September 1964 on a federal government scholarship. In the pre-clinical school, he was one of the first set of students encouraged to spend an extra year in the basic sciences to prepare them for future academic career in Medicine. He obtained the BSc degree in Physiology in June 1967 and then continued with the clinical part of his training in the University College Hospital. He was a demonstrator in Physiology from September 1966 to June 1970. He completed his medical training in June 1970 and was awarded the MBBS degree.
