Prof. Idris Mohammed (NNOM)

A renowned immunologist and rheumatologist, and an expert in infectious diseases, Professor Idris Mohammed was born in Gombe, Gombe State on 15th April 1942. He attended primary and secondary schools at Gombe, Bauchi and the famous Barewa College Zaria between 1949 and 1963, obtaining the Cambridge West African School Certificate in 1961 (with seven distinctions), and the Cambridge Higher School Certificate in 1963. He graduated Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Ibadan in1969 and, after internship and residency training at UCH Ibadan, proceeded to the United Kingdom for further studies, obtaining the professional qualifications of MRCS, LRCP (1974), Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (both in 1975); and the academic-cum professional qualification Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1977.
