Emeritus Professor Ebiegberi Joe Alagoa, Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the ACADEMY OF Letters was born at Nembe, Bayelsa State in 1933. He grew up in the Niger Delta and attended the prestigious Government College, Umuahia (1948-1953) and the University College, Ibadan, (1954-1959) graduating with a 2nd class Upper Division at the top of his graduating Class. He performed a similar feat at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin (1962-1965) while pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Comparative Tropical History in 1966 as a Carnegie Research Fellow. His dissertation is an “Opus Magnum “entitled “The practice of history in Africa: A history of African historiography”. Professor Alagoa has researched and produced monumental monographs and publications on the history and culture of the Niger Delta.
