Professor Kuku started his University teaching and research career in 1965 at the then University of Ife as an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics and was promoted Lecturer in 1967. He moved to the University of Ibadan as a Lecturer in 1968 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Ibadan in 1982. He was Head Mathematics Department, University of Ibadan (1983-86) Dean, Post-Graduate School, University of Ibadan, (1986-90), and Foundation Chairman, Committee of Deans of Postgraduate Schools in Nigerian Universities (1986-90). He was Professor of Mathematics at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, (ICTP), Trieste, Italy (a United Nations Research Centre in mathematics and Physics) 1995-2003. He is now a Professor of Mathematics at the Grambling State University at Grambling, Louisiana, USA.
